Pinus sylvestris 'Sentinel' is a unique sylvestris as the needles are blue-green to blue-grey and the habit is fairly columnar with tight growth. 'Sentinel' was found as a chance seedling from 'Fastigata' by William Goddard of Canada. This blue-green color adds a lot in the landscape and fits in nearly everyone's garden due to its narrow compact habit. 'Sentinel' may reach 6-8 ft in height by 2 ft in width in 10 years, filling out its tight pyramidal shape over time. This tree has been fairly uncommon in the nursery trade, but I expect it to become fairly popular as it is so easy to use in the garden for year round color in smaller spaces.
