'Big Red' is a beautiful bright red selection bred by Vivian Abney of East Fork Nursery. Originally labeled as #382 WAL x AL, 'Big Red' is a hand crossed hybrid between 'Wallowa Red' and Rhododendron alabamense. 'Big Red' displays large bright red blooms with good vigor and a heavy bloom set. 'Big Red' may reach 6-7 ft in height by 4 ft in width in 10 years. Like most deciduous azaleas, make sure to give 'Big Red' plenty of drainage and organic matter when planting.
