’Lupe’ is a new selection of Japanese maple that has large, rounded foliage that is mauve red in the spring maturing to red-bronze. The foliage almost appears glossy. I do believe this tree may in fact be a hybrid with Acer circinatum. This selection is fairly multi-stemmed. Give this selection protection from the hot afternoon sun for best growth and color. ‘Lupe’ is sometimes labeled and pronounced “Loopy”.
