Azalea 'Memory of James Thompson’ Orange Native Azalea

Rhododendron austrinum 'Memory of James Thompson' Orange Blooms

Deciduous Native Flame Azalea

Zones 6-9

Rhododendron austrinum ‘Memory of James Thompson’ is a selected form of the Florida azalea known for its showy, fragrant spring blooms in warm shades of yellow, gold, and soft orange. Like other R. austrinum selections, it is a deciduous native shrub that typically blooms in mid to late spring before or as the foliage emerges, producing trumpet-shaped flowers in loose clusters that attract pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It generally grows 6–10 ft tall at maturity with an upright, multi-stemmed habit and performs best in light shade with acidic, well-drained, organically rich soil. This selection is appreciated for its bright but refined coloration and its strong performance in native woodland and naturalistic landscapes.
