Acer Japonicum 'O-isami' is a beautiful deciduous tree that adds 3 season interest to the garden. Acer japonicum is native to Japan, Manchuria, and Korea. It features rounded, palmate, fern-like, medium green leaves that are deeply divided into 7-11 acuminate, toothed, and cut, ovate to lance-shaped lobes. The leaves turn yellow and bright red in fall, and each rounded leaf purportedly resembles a full moon, hence the common name. ‘O-isami’ is an upright, large-leaved cultivar with an open rounded crown. It typically grows to 10' tall and 6' wide over the first 10 years. It is best grown in well-drained soil in full sun to part shade and prefers lightly dappled shade. Growing this cultivar in shade can increase leaf to near dinner plate sizes. This large foliage gives a unique feel in the summer garden and is the prefect pallet for amazing fall interest.  'O-isami' works great when used as a specimen or in small groups around the home, patio or yard.
